Meet Sally

I’m excited to offer personalized in-home tutoring services for children in the Charlotte community. With a passion for education and a deep love for helping children grow, I bring both professional experience and a nurturing, family-centered approach to my work.

I focus on school readiness skills and I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach by the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE).

I am a native Charlottean and attended Charlotte Country Day from K through 12 before earning a bachelor of science from Furman University. After college, I spent several years working on Capital Hill as a congressional aide before becoming a legal recruiter for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld. My husband Pete and I returned to Charlotte in 2004 where I joined Kennedy Covington (later K&L Gates) to continue my career in legal recruitment.

After the birth of my third child, Annie, in 2010, I decided to take time off from work to care for our three kids. When Annie entered junior kindergarten at Country Day, I began spending time at school as a substitute teacher. This was the perfect way for me to engage with the school community and it helped me discover my passion for early childhood education. I took the opportunity to become a full time JK teacher at CCDS prior to the pandemic before moving to kindergarten in 2021.

My background has given me a strong foundation in early childhood education and a deep understanding of how to meet young learners where they are—academically, socially, and emotionally. My favorite part about teaching is seeing those “lightbulb” moments, where things start to click to for a student, making their educational pathway light up for them!

At home, I’m a proud mom to three wonderful children: Molly, a senior in high school; Banks, a junior; and Annie, a freshman. Each of them possess vastly different learning styles and watching them and working with them throughout their educational journey has given me so much insight into how different kids process information and gain knowledge. My husband Pete and our dog Mo complete our busy and joyful household. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, traveling, spending quality time with my family, and watching my kids play sports—especially soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse.

I believe that every child has unique strengths, and with the right support and encouragement, they can thrive. My goal is to create a comfortable, engaging, and supportive learning environment that builds confidence and fosters a lifelong love of learning.I look forward to the opportunity to work with your child and support their academic journey!
